About Me

Hi, I'm Nick, the creator of Associo.

I'm an airline pilot, engineer, traveler, and language learner. For the past two and a half years, I've been seriously studying Spanish because I wanted to connect with people in their native language and experience different cultures on a deeper level.

As my Spanish improved, I ran into a frustrating problem. I could read well and hold conversations, but when native speakers responded, I often struggled to understand them. TV shows and movies were usually too advanced, and podcasts weren't tailored to the specific vocabulary and situations I was trying to learn.

I turned to flashcards, but every app I tried showed the text before playing the audio. By the time I heard the phrase, I had already read it. I wasn't training my listening comprehension—I was training my reading.

So I built Associo.

What started as a simple audio-first flashcard app for my own studies grew into the language-learning tool I always wished existed. Every feature was designed to solve a real problem I encountered while learning Spanish, from audio-first flashcards to background listening modes and fully customizable study content.

My goal is simple: help serious language learners improve their comprehension and gain the confidence to communicate naturally with native speakers.

Learning a language takes time, but the ability to connect with people in their own language is one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I hope Associo helps make that journey a little easier for you.
